My True Friend and Companion

Since my child-hood, I was very much interested in reading news-papers, magazines & books. And I  was more keen and interested in reading stories. My first friend was my Father and after him "Books " became my true friend & companion. Those were the days, after coming back home from school, I used to lock myself in a small study room and  read story books & magazines, alone. In earlier days of my child hood, I was fond of reading Sanmarg, Dainik Vishwamitra, Chandamama, Nandan, Parag, Sarita/Mukta, Sarika  and Dharamyug (all in Hindi); Desh Darpan, Navi Prabhat and Sajripar in   (Gurmukhi); Bartoman, Ananda Bazar Patrika , Desh and Anandomela (in Bengali) and The Statesman, Junior-Statesman, Amrita Bazar Patrika and Illustrated weekly of India in English language.  And when I went to high school, I started reading Fictions for two rerasons:

1) Fiction used to be a long story
2) I can borow it from liabrary.

The first two books which has changed my life up-side down were: -

1) Bharat Gandhi Aur Main by Acharaya Shree Rajneesh/Osho - (Non fiction in Hindi)
2) Sampada by GuruDutt (Hindi Fiction)

And there-after a new chapter started in my life and I had started visiting National Library  at New Alipore, Calcutta, (which was only 5-KM away from my house), to read more and more books. National Library was an ocean of books and I got the treasure of books in all Indian and International languages. First I started reading books in Gurmukhi, Hindi, Bengali & English languages and later I had read books written in Marathi, Malayalam, Uriah, Kanad, Tamil and Telagu (all were available in Hindi translation);  and believe you me, I could not finish reading even 5% of it's stock till date.

Today, it's more than 40 years and not even once my friends have ever left me alone, they were always there with me when-ever  and where-ever I wanted them to be. I have passed good days and bad days in the company of my books.
